Maxine Fletcher BA (Hons) CQSW PTA PGDip (Ethics) MSc
Programme Lead for Social Work
Following residential social care experience in physical disability, learning disability and mental health, Maxine qualified as a Social Worker in 1990, after undertaking her first degree in Applied Social Sciences, together with a CQSW, at Middlesex. She began her career in Local Authority settings, in generic patch teams, and duty/intake work. She gained more specialised statutory experience in Social Work with Children, Young People and their Families, and then concentrated on Child Protection work. Within the Child Protection arena, she progressed to Senior Practitioner and then Unit Manager level.
During this time, Maxine obtained her Practice Teachers Award from Oxford University, and supported students on placement in both an on-site and off-site capacity.
After leaving Local Authority Social Work, Maxine worked for the NSPCC for six years, first as a Child Protection Officer with the Regional Investigation Service, investigating allegations of institutional and organised abuse, and later, as a Child Protection Trainer, focussing on multi-agency working. During this time she completed her Post-Grad Diploma in the Ethics of Social Welfare at Keele.
She joined Oxford Brookes in 2004 as a Senior Lecturer, and teaches undergraduate, postgraduate and post-qualified students, both for Social Work, and across other professional programmes within the Faculty.
Maxine has had experience of delivering all aspects of the social work programme, including leading on Practice Learning and Service User and Carer involvement, undertaking the Subject Coordinator role for both the undergraduate and postgraduate social work programmes, and leading on Admissions.
Maxine has a Masters in Higher Professional Education, and is currently working towards her Professional Doctorate in Education. She is a member of the Judging Panel for the Social Worker of the Year Award. She became Programme Lead for Social Work in September 2014.
