SOCIAL WORK BURSARY

The Department of Health will go out to consultation on reforming the social work bursary in 2012. The Aim is for changes to be introduced for the 2013 academic year. The reasons for reforming the bursary are to:

  • improve the overall quality of social work graduates;
  • maintain a sufficient supply of high quality new entrants to the profession and support widening participation, and
  • recognise the need to maximise value for money and target expenditure on high quality candidates.

Students including those who start courses in 2012 academic year will continue to receive the social work bursary under the current rules until they graduate.
